Formerly known as Brightline, Virgin Trains USA is moving aggressively to expand the number of train stations along its desired route from Miami to Orlando.
Armed with the proceeds from $1.75 billion offering completed this past April, Virgin announced that they will now begin completing the leg from West Palm Beach to Orlando. The prospectus for the bond offering indicated that Virgin would seek additional stops at the Port of Miami and the Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale airport.
The expansion of train stations does not end there. Earlier this month Virgin trains indicated their desire to provide additional stops between Fort Lauderdale and Jupiter, Florida. The City of Boca Raton is high on their list of potential targets and discussions appear to be underway. Geographically, Boca is virtually equidistant between Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Our city boasts major universities, numerous corporate headquarters, an international airport and a thriving business community.

Apparently Virgin would like to ramp up ridership as quickly as possible. It is expected that Virgin Trains USA will be putting forth a proposal at 2pm during the City Council Workshop meeting Monday July 22. As always, the devil is in the details but a Virgin Trains USA stop in Boca Raton could be great for our City. Let’s see what happens.
