Boca Raton city government has been very busy winning Vision Zero grant awards from USDOT. Additionally, a consultant has been retained to develop the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan. This article provides information regarding Boca Raton’s Vision Zero progress tracker update.

Recent Vision Zero Progress
This section discusses the updated tasks shown in the following Vision Zero Action Plan Progress tracker
- 1.1 Action Plan Consultant Agreement. After a competitive bidding process, on 7/23/2024 Kimley-Horn was selected to develop Boca Raton’s Vision Zero Action Plan.
- 2.0 Action Plan Development. This process started on 8/2/2024 and is estimated to complete around 7/31/2025 or earlier. One of the first Kimley-Horn tasks is to develop a schedule of activities with the city staff. We will update the tracker as details become available.
- 3.0 USDOT Planning and Demonstration Grant Submission/Award. On 5/17/2024 the city was notified that it won an award of $4,000,000 to perform activities that help develop the Vision Zero Action Plan. The city will contribute $1,000,000 to this activity. It is estimated that $1,000,000 will be used to gather planning data for the Action Plan. Also, $4,000,000 will be used for temporary demonstration projects whose results will also inform the Action Plan. The goal is to have the city council approve the USDOT Grant Agreement in September, 2024.
Summary
A status update to Boca Raton’s Vision Zero Progress Tracker is provided. The update includes the completion of an agreement with Kimley-Horn for developing the Action Plan and work has begun. Additionally, the city is processing a $4,000,000 USDOT Planning and Demonstration Grant. A map of the proposed uses for the $4M grant by fellow BocaFirst Bike Advocate Les Wilson is below. BocaFirst will continue to monitor these programs and report on significant status updates.
